Sneak Preview: September Meeting A SPECIAL 2 HOUR SPEAKER PRESENTATION

When: Wednesday, September 18, 2002 Time: 7:00 p.m.

Environmental Management Institute, Inc., Training Room.

Speaker: Tod Herrli on wooden plane making. Tod is the instructor and owner of Mississinewa Workshop in Marion, Indiana. He has been teaching and lecturing for several years. Tod was featured in the Indiana State Museum’s "Tools of the Trade" exhibit in Indianapolis during 1997. This exhibit featured him as modern plane maker reproducing 18th century tools as were on display by the museum. He has also collaborated with Roy Underhill of the Woodwright’s shop" to produce an episode about making window sash. Tod has appeared and also made custom planes for Scott Phillips of the American woodshop. You can visit his website at http://www.comteck.com/~therrli/

Saturday, October 5 2002, is an Open House for Forum members at American Sycamore Woodworker's Retreat, the new woodworking school located near Cloverdale, Indiana.  Mike Van Pelt, the owner, has arranged for demonstrations and a brief presentation about the school. Watch for the September newsletter for more information. 

-Bosch Toy Contest-

Bosch will again sponsor a toy contest for Forum members. Judging will be at our December 2002 meeting. More information in July minutes section and September Newsletter.

-Club Brochures-

Dick Brown has ready 500 copies of our brochure in preparation for the Holiday Gift Show. Start thinking about what time slot you want to man (or woman) the HCF booth at the show.

-Membership Directory-

The new membership directory with color pictures will be ready for distribution at our September meeting.

- Video Tape Library -
The videotape library is available at all meetings. This is a free service to members. You are encouraged to make use of this valuable service but please return any tapes you have borrowed. All borrowed tapes are to be returned at the next month's meeting. This will allow others to enjoy this service too.

Minutes from July 17, 2002 Forum meeting.

* Report of Nominating committee for elections. Slate approved by voice vote.

* Lutherwood is looking to Forum for a furniture repair day. Please contact Lew Lundberg if you are interested in helping out this worthy cause.

* A letter was submitted to the President to amend the bylaws. The proposed changes were read to the membership and the President will take the letter before the executive committee.

* Video Library: Several new titles have been added. Please return your long overdue videos so that others can also learn from them.

* Toy Project: Shops are busy producing toys. All members that are working on toys at your home shop are reminded that you need to turn in your finished toys by our November 2002 meeting.

* Speaker

David Reisteck, representative from Bosch tools, spoke on drill bits and saw blades with many examples for members to handle. We all learned a few new things.

Bosch Toy Contest for HCF members only will be judged at our December 2002 meeting. Best toy from HCF member will receive a Bosch L295 DVSK Random Orbit sander. All those that enter will receive a prize. Toys entered in contest will become property of Bosch and will be given to charity. Top winner will advance to national competition. Watch at upcoming meetings for more information and start planning your toy now.
