Program: Contemporary Art Furniture presented by Phil Tennant,

Professor of Furniture Design, Herron School of Art/IUPUI

Phil Tennant will give a slide presentation on Contemporary Art Furniture. Contemporary art furniture combines fine craftsmanship with innovative ideas on form and content. Following the presentation, there will be time for discussion and to tour the Herron Furniture Studio.

A bit about our speaker: Phil directs The Herron School of Art, Furniture Design Department, one of the nations finest undergraduate furniture design programs. He has a degree in sculpture from New York State University, Alfred and worked as a studio assistant for Wendell Castle, furniture artist, after graduating. In 1975, he took up teaching. Phil has exhibited his furniture and sculptures both nationally and regionally and is represented in galleries in Chicago, Washington DC, Boston, and Indianapolis. In addition to teaching and exhibiting, Phil has an active calendar of designing, working on commissions, writing, and lecturing.

Plan to attend and expand your horizons in furniture design.

HCF participation in Indy's 2003 Woodworking Show

Without a doubt, this show attracts more Central Indiana woodworkers than any other event during the year. It is our clubs best opportunity for publicity. HCF will have a booth for displaying examples of our work and attracting prospective members. In addition, on Saturday and Sunday we will be supporting a new program called the Lil' Builders Workshop. The workshop will be located at another booth equipped with three Hawk scroll saws. Our members will collect donations, assist children to choose a design, trace it onto a blank, cut out the simple patterns, and paint the projects. Children attending the workshop donate $3 with all of the proceeds going to benefit a local charity. As a special incentive to help, each Lil' Builders Workshop volunteer will receive a complementary 3-day pass to the show. This is a great way to get kids interested in woodworking, promote our club, and make the Woodworking Show an event for the entire family.
