HCF WORKSHOPS SEND TOYS TO AFGHANISTAN

The National Guard transported twenty boxes of toys free of charge

April 2005

Indiana National Guard Lieutenant Roger Estes is
stationed in Afghanistan. He sent a request to his father-inlaw for toys and other items for children in the local villages. Roger's father-in-law is club member John Patterson, a volunteer at one of Home Craftsmen Forum's toy workshops. In response, the shops hosted by Norm Cunningham and Sam Philips produced and sent 300 toys which were delivered by the Indiana National Guard. The Guard will probably receive more toys from HCF in the future, since the first shipment contained only toys for boys. The shops are considering toys suitable for young girls, e.g. chairs, stools, cell phones, cameras, checkers, spin and learn, doll carriages, jewelry boxes, etc. The photo to the right shows two Afghan children with a hand-made toy.
