In other business, we welcomed several new members recruited through the Woodworking Show, and awarded door prizes supplied to us by Rockler. An announcement was made regarding manufacturing small items to use as fund-raisers at next year's Christmas Gift & Hobby Show.

Jim Dupler demonstrated at the March meeting. Jim works in a mill, reproducing antique and weather-damaged architectural millwork for area buildings. Lathe turning is part of his routine work as well as his hobby. He is currently teaching evening classes in spindle turning at the Woodcrafters store in the Castleton area. Explaining as he went, Jim turned a baby rattle with captured rings. He commented that he usually told less knowlegeable audiences that he soaked the rings in vinegar to make them stretch over the handle. A really useful piece of information was his story stick. He puts brads into the stick at the transition points. With brads filed to points, he pushed the stick against his turning to mark all the transition points at once.
