- June 18t  Meeting –

If you were there you know we enjoyed perfect weather, great fellowship, and lots of fried chicken.  Members brought a wide variety of projects to display their talents.  President Lew provided an interesting recap of the past year, re-minding us of what we’d accomplished.  A highpoint of the evening was our opportunity to hear from those who receive our toys.  It was truly heart-warming to learn how our toys touch the lives of children who face a variety of significant challenges.  Special thanks go to:

      ¬ Steve & Tami Brown of The Door Store for donating door prizes.

      ¬ Rockler for donating a door prize gift certificate.

      ¬ Woods-Work for donating a door prize gift certificate.

- Sound System for our Club –

The search for a sound system for use at our meetings has come to a successful end!  Having read the June newsletter Chris Kammerling spoke up and said, “the club already has one – it’s stored at my place.”  Chris fired it up and reports that it works “just fine.”  Thanks to Chris, we won’t be hearing Sgt. Carter’s favorite line, “I can’t hear you!,” at future meetings  {Pardon the flash back to Gomer Pyle USMC.}

- Tom Meeker’s Visit to August Home Publishing

“When I was in Des Moines, Iowa this June I paid a visit to August Home Publishing, the publisher of ShopNotes, WORKBENCH and Woodsmith.  Doug Hicks, the Vice President and Executive Editor gave me a tour of their offices and shop.  The projects in their mag-azines are all designed by the magazine staff and built in their shop.  The shop at August Home is not fancy.  They have intentionally designed the shop to be like a home shop.  Their goal is the design and feature projects that an average home woodworker could build at home.”

“Doug was very interested in our club and asked me to send him our newsletter.  He also provided some ideas on things we could do with the club.  Doug said that some Midwest clubs have come to visit them, they like to host clubs.  Doug also has done presentations to woodworking clubs around the county.  If you find yourself in Des Moines plan to stop by August Home for an afternoon tour.  Besides meeting some nice folks your can see all the projects that have been featured in the magazines.”

“Also when in Des Moines a must stop is August Home's new retail outlet the Woodsmith Store.  The store is located just off the interstate and is the largest woodworking store I have seen.  I recommend you visit their web site and see what they have to offer.”

 “If you want to know more about my visit, please ask me at the next meeting I would happy to tell you more.”
