Program:
Decorative Boxes by Band and Scroll Saw with Richard Ellis.
Dick Ellis started making small
decorative boxes when he joined Home Craftsmen Forum and got involved with the
Christmas Toy Project. He has since made
1000s of boxes.
Dick did an excellent presentation with
many pass around examples of how to make a small wooden box.

A hand out was given out that covered
the basic steps in making a box plus a few of Dick’s favorite patterns.
Some of Dick’s tips were:
Wrap the wood with 3 – 4 layers of
packing tape before cutting it out will keep the wood from burning as you cut.
Use a blade lubricant.
Drill the hole for the peg hinge first
while the wood is in an easy shape to handle on the drill press.
Dick added two of his special boxes to
our door prize drawing that night. Two
meeting attendees got to take home a bit of extra inspiration to try making
boxes.
