To
HCF Members:
Darrell McConnell has done a great job as our Toy Project Coordinator for
the last five years. I appreciate all the time and effort he has put into it.
Darrell is retiring as the Project Coordinator at the end of this year.
Therefore, we are needing to fill that position.
The coordinator could also use an assistant or two to spread the work
around. So if you are interested in
this rewarding position, please contact me.
The toy project is an important part of the club that provides us with
many benefits. The first benefit
that comes to mind, is the good will the club generates by using our talents to
make toys for disadvantaged children. And
nothing feels better than the gratification you get in making a child's life
happier. Those two benefits alone
are enough so that all club members should want to be involved with the toy
project. Building toys is also an
excellent way to develop woodworking skills.
The toys may appear simple in design, but producing several identical
toys takes skill. Learning to build
jigs needed for projects is likely the most important skill a woodworker needs
to have. When working in one of the
toy shops, you have the opportunity to learn skills and tricks of the trade from
other wood workers. The toy shops
are also wonderful places to develop friendships with people that share your
woodworking interests.
To keep the Toy Project successful, we all need to be involved with it.
There are several ways you can help, consider being the coordinator, an
assistant coordinator, or one that delivers toys to the agencies we support.
Contact one of the shop hosts and join with other members building toys
each week. You can also build toys
in your own shop as time is available by working with box projects. If you are
interested in working in a toy shop call Sam Phillips, Dick Brown, Don Melloy or
Norm Cunningham for more information. You
can also build toys in your own shop. So
please ask how you can help. If
everyone is involved in our toy project, it can be fun for us all!

2003 Toy Project – Darrell
McConnell
The 2003 Toy Distribution will be held on Saturday Dec. 13th at Automatic Pool Covers Building (9001 E. 133rd Place, Fishers, IN), beginning at 9:00 a.m. This date is the only one that we have available to us this year due to a conflict with Dec. 6th for Automatic Pool Covers Building. Any date later than that will be too late for the toy distribution for the toy recipient groups. Toy delivery will be on the following Monday, Dec. 15th, Tuesday, Dec. 16th or Wednesday, Dec 17th, depending on when the
