November meeting preview (continued)

A little about ASHI from their website (www.ashi.com).

In 1976, a group of visionary home inspectors established the American Society of Home Inspectors, a not-for-profit membership organization. Their goal was to build consumer awareness of home inspection and to enhance professionalism by developing high Standards of Practice and a Code of Ethics.

Today, ASHI is the largest and most respected professional association for home inspectors in North America, with more than 5,800 members. ASHI's Standards of Practice, covering all of a home's major systems, are specifically noted in state and federal legislation and recognized by consumers as the definitive standard for professional home inspection.

- Proposed Policy for Lumber Donated for HCF Christmas Toy Projects -

Please review the following proposal and be prepared to discuss and vote on it at the October 16, 2002 meeting.

Lumber donated to the club is intended for use in the Christmas Toy Project unless specifically stated as being received for another purpose. It may be used either in the group shops making toys or by individual members working in their private shops on projects for the Toy effort.

Lumber may be made available to the membership for personal use when capacity for storage is exceeded. This can occur up to three times a year at the discretion of the Group Toy Shop Leaders or the Executive Committee. When made available to members, a voluntary donation from those receiving lumber is encouraged but not required. Any money collected in this manner will be turned over to the club Treasurer for exclusive use in Toy Project related expenses.

- The 53rd Christmas Gift and Hobby Show -

The Gift and Hobby show is scheduled for November 13-17, 2002 in the West Pavilion of the Indiana State Fairgrounds. HCF is a long time exhibitor at this show.

Please check your calendar in advance of the October meeting and come prepared to sign up for a time slot to man our booth or to set up/take down the booth and transport displays items.

In the past, HCF has exhibited toys from our Christmas Toy Project at our booth. We plan to continue doing this as it represents our commitment to our community. Our club represents much more to us than our toy effort and we need to show the community more of who we are. Please bring your ideas and suggestions to the next meeting to help us achieve this.

- New Members -

- Meeting Room Costs -

Environmental Management Institute, Inc. rents us their Training Room at the very reasonable cost of $45 a meeting. For this amount, we receive use of the meeting room, their electronic equipment, and the liquid refreshments. They also clean up our coffee cups and lemonade glasses.

To help us pay our rent, we pass the "hat" at each meeting. OK, usually it is just a box that we pass around because no one has a hat available. Please, donate to help the club offset the cost of our excellent meeting facility.

***

- Video Tape Library -

The videotape library is available at all meetings. This is a free service to members. You are encouraged to make use of this valuable service but please return any tapes you have borrowed. All borrowed tapes are to be returned at the next month's meeting. This will allow others to enjoy this service too.

The club added Tod Herrlis video on "Plane Making" to our library. Tod was our speaker at our September meeting.

A complete list of videotape titles is available on our website. A printed catalogue is available for review at each meeting.

Do you have videos that would be useful for the library? . . . . . Let us know.
